Back in Business, LOBO, & Being an OIC

Yes, as indicated in the title, I'm back in business.

I offer my apology to my subscribers for not being able to update everyone on my latest conquests - if there are actually any - and other developments. So for your fascination and my peace of mind, here are some thoughts that have been bubbling away in my semi-stressed mind.

1. LOBO's editing is not quite well-planned.

If you watch ABS-CBN's "Lobo", you probably have noticed Angel Locsin's character changing into a thing called a "wolf" (which, in the case at hand, is actually a husky from France).

I'm not an avid fan, I just happened to stumble upon one or two episodes of LOBO and noticed something quite, ummmm, disturbing. Go ahead and watch an episode (if it's still on air) and observe Angel Locsin when she transforms into a "wolf". {Don't worry, I won't tell...} Doesn't her face crumple…

"Education" Misspelled in a Diploma

Ooopppsss! This is so embarrassing!
Imagine?! The word "education" gets misspelled in your own diploma? How do you expect to trust the institution that gave the diploma to you? Hmm. Crazy, but funny. Hehehe.

But the diplomas were taken back to be re-printed so the principal won't get more humiliation from other radio stations. One life-time of embarrassment just for a misspelled word is already quite a shame. Hehe.

Sarcasm is the Sweetest Weapon

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word "sarcasm" derives from ancient Greek for "to tear flesh, gnash the teeth, speak bitterly." Its first definition is "a sharp, bitter, or cutting expression or remark; a bitter gibe or taunt." Although sarcasts may just intend to be funny, their words can also be very hurtful to the intended target.

Most of the time, when you say something sarcastic, the person that you're speaking to understands your intention. But how? Since they can't .....rely on the words for the message, listeners pick up on other cues. When we say something sarcastic, we often use a very specific tone of voice. Important elements of spoken sarcasm include intonation, or how you vary the pitch of your voice, and stress, or how you emphasize certain words.

Sarcasm exists in many languages other than English; in fact, speakers of many foreign languages even use the same types of indicators that we do in English. Haiman points to…

This is What Friends Are For...

Another Mildly Disturbing Personage

I'm not quite the "fan" of Nostradamus and his predictions/prophecies, but somehow I managed to have stumbled upon this site owned by a certain person claiming that he is being guided by the living soul of Nostradamus.

In his latest post, he has written this:

"Oprah finds out what happened over an hour after the accident. But it is too late to say goodbye to her dearest friend Gail King....
It is already dark out at the time of the accident....I'm assuming that this tragic accident happens this year in 2008 or early 2009. Oprah WILL have a feeling the day of the event of a car crash, but tries to put it out of her mind....."

"Oprah's retreat from the world causes great sadness for her faithful viewers and fans. ....Oprah's great gift to help and inspire others becomes lost to the world."

Hmm, no one forces anyone to believe things at first glance, so for the sake of quenching your curiosity, here is the complete post....

Threatened.

Our immediate supervisor, who we call the head of our department is resigning to go to greener pastures. She's decided she wanted to try out Singapore, earn a bit more, pile up on experience and save more to be able to balance out the potential expenses of married life - or so I think these are her reasons. But nonetheless, she's leaving and her last day with us in the company is on June 28.

I was already told I'd be officer-in-charge for a while. Not permanent though, they're trying to hunt down a more experienced CPA, one who has experience in Internal Auditing altogether. And the thing is, I'm threatened. The chances of myself replacing our now future ex-head is starting to get dim. Hmm. And I thought.... ... I wanted this position badly. Our adviser, the Finance Director, who was part of the Internal Audit team from way back, was the one who told me that I'll be OIC, and if circumstances permit - meaning, if they do not find a replacement for our future ex-h…
